Mount Isa City Council will be putting up 28 new security cameras around town at strategic locations. Wednesday’s Council meeting heard about the upgrades the public CCTV network enabled by $100,000 funding from the federal Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program. The Council report said that the grant funding would pay for 28 new cameras at seven locations across town. They will include four new locations – Martin / Walton St intersection (Pioneer), Camooweal / Dora St (near the hospital), Clark / East St (Townview) and Abel Smith Pde North (Sunset), Additional cameras have been added at Simpson St (near the Buffs), West / Isa St and Isa / Camooweal St (both in the CBD). Council said they have added four new cameras at each of these locations that can provide a 360 degree view or concentrated view as required. They chose the locations after public consultation with 11 submissions. “Using these submissions and working with Queensland Police Service, Council was able to target the spots around Mount Isa,” Council said. “Internal consultation was then completed to manage any unforseen risks.” READ ALSO: Mount Isa Village sells for over $40 million Our journalists work hard to provide local, up-to-date news to the community.
