Facility managers can now manage thousands of access credentials to frequently used doorways from a smart, secure, centralized platform. BEST’s Updated Wi-Q Technology The wireless access solution integrates with Mercury, opening the door to dozens of integrations through the Mercury Panel. Wi-Q runs its own security updates every 60 seconds every day. It is easy to install and can be retrofitted without wiring wires to the door. It also includes a portal gateway housing that has been redesigned to look like a daily Wi-Fi router, and can be hidden inconspicuously to reduce tampering.

“Wi-Q was a smart choice for adding access control without performing wiring,” said product manager Edward Holst. “We kept all the high-performance features our customers expected and enabled Wi-Q Mercury to integrate with our ever-growing list of integrated software platforms that work with locks.”

The Wi-Q wireless technology solution is integrated with Mercury Security’s Platinum Elite Partner and Access Control Software Maker RS2 Technologies. The RS2 platform is state-of-the-art security and provides an enhanced access control infrastructure with the most advanced access control technologies available. Its suite of access control products provides solutions for organizations of all sizes. Additional features such as email notifications and web clients allow users to control and monitor the facility from anywhere.

“The RS2 integration laid the foundation for increasing the list of partners that work with Wi-Q,” Horst said. “This fast and reliable security solution brings intelligent power to access control needs with an overall design that enables scalability based on changing security and access needs.”

Wi-Q’s new overall design makes it easy to move upgradeability and scalability from simple to highly complex.

The Wi-Q series integrates all components such as electronic locks, card readers, door position switches, exit request switches and door control switches into one integrated device for wireless connection to remote portals. The portal gateway links the Wi-Q lock to the access control system. All data flows through the portal gateway to the host access control system for easy monitoring. The wireless access controller allows you to retrofit existing wired entries to your system, such as turnstile ticket gates, entrance gates, and reader control doors.

Since everything is stored in the reader, this wireless access management system consists of:

  • Portal gateway: Enables two-way communication between the wireless reader and the host computer
  • Wireless access controller: Provides wireless capabilities for difficult-to-wire applications, mods for existing wired applications, and an easy path to control ADA automatic doors using readers.
  • Wireless Access Door Reader: Available in magnetic stripe, proximity, and dual verification formats
  • BEST Grade 1 Mortise Lock, Cylindrical Lock or Exit Trim

Wi-Q provides wireless access management through integration with the Mercury access control system, and access decisions are made at the door even during a power outage. The platform is available for up to 64 locks per portal gateway and has up to 14,000 credentials per lock. Locks are fast, consume less power than similar devices, and the controller allows quick installation in difficult-to-wire or modified applications.

With no wiring or termination required and all components integrated into one device, the Wi-Q series takes a total installation time of 1-2 hours.
