Coronavirus vs The Benefits of Automatic Doors

Being an automatic door company, we thought it would be useful to explore the benefits of automatic doors and how they can help reduce contamination during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Did you know that viruses can live for some time on surfaces outside of the body? In fact, it’s alarming how long they can last for…

A recent study by NIH suggests that COVID-19 can be found on plastic and stainless steel surfaces for up to three days, unless properly decontaminated. According to the CDC, it’s possible to contract the virus responsible for the Coronavirus outbreak by touching a service or object with the virus on it, then touching your face. One of the benefits of automatic doors is that they eliminate the need to physically touch surfaces like doors and handles. Therefore, reducing surface to surface transmission.

How do automatic doors help slow down Coronavirus?

Now more than ever, we need to be conscious of what we touch and what we touch afterwards. Take manual doors for example, do you push the entrance door with your arms or feet instead of touching it with your hands? But what about when you have to pull on the handle to exit? Thanks to automatic doors, this is no longer a problem. As you’re reducing the risk of transmission and contamination, it helps slow down the spread of Coronavirus.

That’s where we come in.

As an automatic door company, our comprehensive range of automated sliding and swing doors provide an essential service in allowing touch free access. Our automated doors offer so much more than accessibility, but hygiene too! Especially in hospitals and food factories where sanitation is essential, our automated doors allow for a hands-free alternative to opening doors.

But it doesn’t stop at doors…

We also offer touchless switches for easy door opening and anti-microbial switches. One major benefit of utilizing touchless activation is the reduced hand contact with outside door handles. The anti-microbial finish ensures that bacteria and viruses, like COVID-19, will not survive, bringing you peace of mind.

Plus, our anti-bacterial switches sense activation from up to 50mm away, so you don’t need to be in close contact with the door pad whatsoever!

How else can we stop the spread?

With so many of us returning to work, school and having access to shops, it’s important to think of how we can actively reduce the risk of surface to surface transmission. Here’s just a few things that will help:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water for more than 20 seconds – and more regularly than usual
  • Avoid crowds, keep a 2m distance and only socialize with those from your family or social bubble
  • Adopt additional hygiene measures when out and about – wear a mask and use anti-bacterial gel after touching surfaces (if soap and water is not available)
