Under its India 2.0 project, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India will bring in multiple products along with increasing their retail and service networks. The first two models which are planned under the new strategy are the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun. While the former recently went on sale at a starting price of Rs 10.49 lakh, the latter is due for August 2021. Here’re major differences and similarities between both siblings.
Volkswagen Taigun Vs Skoda Kushaq – Exterior
– The production models of both SUVs stay true to their respective concepts. One can easily differentiate both models just by looking at the front end.
– While the Kushaq carries Skoda’s signature butterfly grille with sleek LED headlamps, the Taigun has slatted grille, square-ish LED headlights and a more upright hood. Volkswagen gives a generous chrome treatment on the front fascia.
– The side profile of both SUVs is exactly similar including diamond-cut, dual-tone 17-inch alloy wheels, shoulder creases and door lines. However, the Kushaq gets a unique wheels’ design.
– While the new Volkswagen SUV has connected LED taillamps, the Kushaq gets L-shaped LED taillights with crystalline elements.
Platform, Dimensions
– Both mid-size SUVs underpin VW Group’s heavily localised MQB-A0-IN platform and measures 4221mm in length, 1760mm in width and 1612mm in height.
– Compared to their arch rivals (Creta and Seltos), the Taigun and Kushaq sit on a longer wheelbase (2651mm).
Volkswagen Taigun Vs Skoda Kushaq – Interior
– The upcoming Taigun has simple interior layout with well positioned control buttons, a digital driver’s display and a new flat bottom steering wheel. It comes with the grey dashboard and an integrated touchscreen infotainment system with the latest smartphhone connectivity.
– The Kushaq, on the other hand, offers a 10.1-inch floating infotainment system and a new two-spoke steering wheel. Its gloss black material gives a sporty feel and appeal.
– Features which are common among the SUVs are a single-pane sunroof, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, rear AC vents, touch-based climate control, cruise control, a 6-speaker audio system with subwoofer, up to 6 airbags, electronic stability control, parking sensors with a camera and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
– The Taigun gets a digital instrument cluster, which is absent on the Kushaq. Skoda’s new SUV offers reflector dots on the doors and door pads integrated strings for holding objects.
Volkswagen Taigun Vs Skoda Kushaq – Engine
– Both SUVs come with the VW Group’s 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo petrol engines delivering power worth 115bhp with 175Nm and 150bhp with 250Nm respectively.
– All variants of the SUVs get a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. While the smaller capacity motor is exclusively offered with a 6-speed automatic transmission, a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox is reserved for the 1.5L petrol engine.
Volkswagen Taigun Vs Skoda Kushaq – Prices
– Prices of the VW Taigun are yet to be announced. According to dealers’ claim the new Volkswagen SUV will be priced from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom).
– The Skoda Kushaq has been priced between Rs 10.49 lakh (for the entry-level Active 1.0L manual variant) – Rs 17.59 lakh (for the top-end Style 1.5L automatic variant).
– That means, the prices of both SUVs will be more or less similar.
