Prior to the world premiere towards the end of August, the first photos of Hyundai’s MPV will be released, giving the world a glimpse of Hyundai’s latest MPV for the Asian market. Hyundai Kust is the first large MPV to be introduced in China, with design and styling clues that are clearly derived from Hyundai’s current SUV lineup. At launch in China, the Custo is a petrol-only product with two engines and two automatic transmissions to choose from.

In terms of size, the Hyundai Cust is 4.95 meters long, 1.85 meters wide, 1.73 meters high and the wheelbase is 3,006 mm long. It’s a real MPV, but Cust isn’t as big as the new generation Kia Carnival or modern Staria.

In terms of design, Hyundai will certainly get a lot of attention. Its face features the same wing-like layout found in Tucson, with similar headlights and a “parametric jewel” grille design. This includes LED daytime running lights that look like chrome decorations on a large grill. The sides feature sharp lines and a textured finish in the lower half of the door, and the back has a slim LED taillight connected by an LED light bar. Both bumpers use a faux kid plate and the rear door is a sliding type.

Inside, Hyundai follows a fairly minimalist theme with a simple dashboard layout that adds a slim digital instrument display and a portrait-oriented 10.4 inch touch screen. Sharp eyes will also notice that the handle is the same as the Hyundai Creta, and the MPV also gets a twin sunroof layout. In China, it will be offered in 7-seater and 8-seater forms, and a 6-seater version will also be available that replaces the second row bench with a pair of captain chairs.

At the front of the powertrain, Hyundyxto is equipped with a 1.5-liter T-GDI turbo gasoline engine that outputs 170 horsepower (combined with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission) and a larger 2.0-liter T-GDI turbo engine. Gasoline that produces 236 horsepower (combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission). Hyundai is front-wheel drive only.

There is no announcement at this time that Hyundai will be sold in other Asian markets, but it is very likely that MPV bodystyles will continue to be popular in countries such as Indonesia.
