Los Angeles World Airports recently installed SkyLane automatic facial recognition boarding provided by Easier, a provider of airline kiosks, self boarding gates and passport technology. The project was done via a partnership with Idemia, a provider of facial recognition technology, to help U.S. Customs and Border Protection manage border control and increase passenger security, according to a press release.

This technology allows their boarding in one step without having to show a boarding pass or a passport.

Airlines, the airport and Easier do not keep any private passenger information and biometric matching is done by CBP in the cloud. U.S. citizens have the option of opting out of the facial image capture and may be processed by airline agents with a passport and boarding pass.

The SkyLane is Easier’s latest generation of automated doors for access control and boarding. Equipped with a secure entrance passage with swing doors and a patented detection system, the SkyLane provides passenger tracking and prevents unauthorized boarding.

Easier deployed 52 SkyLanes in the Bradley West Gates and 24 SkyLanes at Tom Bradley International Terminal. Under the contract, a total of 128 SkyLanes will be deployed with possible expansions in other terminals.
