Blayney librarian Ruth Bingham has been doing it fairly tough over the years.

There are not many workplaces where the permanent toilets are outside where the wind, spiders and other nasties can also utilise the facilities.

Now though she, and users of the library, have the pleasure of the newest public toilets in Blayney.

Thanks to a grant from the NSW Government’s Resources for Regions Program there are now three separate toilets attached to the original building and Member for Bathurst Paul Toole was impressed by the finished work.

“These are fantastic,” he said as he inspected each room with builder Dave Cowan. “The difference between what was here, and now, is amazing.”

Not only does Ms Bingham and the community have a suite of toilets available, but boiling the jug on a table behind her desk for a cup of tea is a thing of the past.

On the left hand side of the new extension there’s a hidden galley kitchen and oodles of storage space.

Not only are the toilets accessible for all members of the community, the new automatic sliding doors will make it easier for the public to gain access.

“This is going to make it so much more convenient and safe for the community,” Ms Bingham said.

It’s not the end of the work though. Plans are beginning, and funding is not yet secured, to build additional rooms at the rear of the building for community groups or move the book collection into the new area and turn the front room into a small community space.
