Skoda Kushaq was launched recently in our market. The manufacturer says that the Kushaq is doing better than they expected in terms of sales. Being a mid-size SUV, the Kushaq has to compete against a lot of competition. To promote the sales of the Kushaq, Skoda has released a video in which the head of design of Skoda, Oliver Stefani explains the Kushaq.

Oliver points out that the Kushaq has very good proportions and the dimensions show the roominess of the cabin. It also has a long wheelbase which is because of the new MQB-AO-IN platform that Skoda is using. Due to this, Skoda Kushaq has one of the best wheelbases in the segment. It measures 2,651 mm. The front is typically a Skoda. It has Skoda’s sleek look and the butterfly grille that we have seen on every Skoda vehicle. At the rear, there are C-shaped Crystalline tail lamps that use LEDs.

He also says that some inspiration from Indian cultures were taken while designing the Kushaq. The team said that India has to face a lot of traffic and the Kushaq should be able to stand out from that traffic. The upright grille, the way the bonnet integrates into the grille and the short overhangs are the most favourite design elements for Oliver. The overhangs were designed purposely to be short so that the SUV looks compact.

For the interior, the Kushaq comes with a smooth touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, there is automatic climate control and a unique two-spoke steering wheel which is a multi-functional unit.

The dashboard has been stretched all the way to the doors so that the Kushaq feels wide from the inside. There are ventilated seats which are a boon in a country like ours. There is also a little space on the dashboard which has been specifically designed by Skoda so that the Indian people can put their talisman.

The Kushaq comes with LED projector headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps, 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels, 6 speakers, an electric sunroof, multi-information display, cruise control, rearview parking camera with parking sensors, wireless chargers, rain-sensing wipers and anti-glare outside rearview mirrors. Moreover, it comes with ambient lighting, fog lamps with cornering functions, roof rails with a load capacity of 50 kgs, automatic headlamps, rear AC vents, USB ports for charging mobile devices and more.

Skoda offers the Kushaq with two petrol engines. There is a 1.0-litre TSI and a 1.5-litre TSI. The 1.0 TSI puts out 115 PS of max power and 178 Nm of peak torque whereas the 1.5 TSI puts out 150 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque.

Both the engines are offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. You can get a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox with the 1.0 TSI and a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox with the 1.5 TSI.
