MEXICO: Carlos Ríos Espinosa, Senior Researcher and Advocate with the Disability Rights Division of Human Rights Watch published an article on December 20th, 2018 called ‘Life With a Disability in the Migrant Caravan‘
With the agreement between the United States and Mexico governments, known as “Remain in Mexico,” asylum seekers are placed at risk of becoming victims of criminal organizations. In addition, for people with disabilities who managed to reach the border, the agreement represents risks to their personal integrity due to poor personal support and accessibility conditions. In the following op-ed, Carlos details the situation of some migrants with disabilities who kindly agreed to share their story with him.
