Opening the range is the xDrive40, priced from $135,900 before on-road costs.

Powering the model is a 71kWh (net) lithium-ion battery, paired to dual electric motors to develop 240kW and 630Nm, enabling a 6.1-second sprint from zero to 100km/h, and a 425km range on Europe’s WLTP test cycle.

150kW DC fast charging promises to enable a 10 to 80 per cent recharge in 31 minutes.

A full list of the model‘s standard equipment – along with every other variant in the iX range – can be found at the bottom of this story. A range of optional packages are available depending on the variant, named Comfort, Enhancement and Indulgence.

The xDrive40 powertrain can be had in a more aggressive Sport variant, priced from $141,900 before on-road costs.

Sitting atop the range at launch is the iX xDrive50, priced from $169,900 before on-road costs.

It upgrades to a larger 105.2kWh lithium-ion battery, which extracts 385kW/765Nm from dual electric motors for a 4.6-second 0-100km/h run and 630km WLTP range.

200kW DC charging enables a 35-minute 10 to 80 per cent recharge time.

The 2022 BMW iX will reach the first Australian customers’ driveways in the fourth quarter of 2021 (October to December inclusive).
