Before approving an accessible ramp construction Thursday at City Hall, City Council learned the entire ramp, automatic doors and elevator project will cost about $500,000.

Council approved the ramp contract with Landserve Inc. in the amount of $164,516.

That company will build the ramp at its factory, a pre-cast concrete ramp, and then it’ll be put up on the West Fourth Street side of City Hall.

Original design was by Gannett-Fleming two years ago, said Jon Sander, city engineer.

Some plumbing and paving will accompany the ramp construction.

Stone veneer will be an add-on bid. The veneer is expected to mesh with the existing facade of City Hall, said Councilwoman Liz Miele.

Streets and Parks Department personnel will do landscaping and lighting.

The projects are part of a consent decree the city has with advocates for the disabled community and Center for Independent Living Roads to Freedom.

Council President Randall J. Allison noted the overall cost is several hundred thousand dollars more than a proposal presented two years ago.
