Sporting bodies and community events are among the recipients of the latest round of funding from windfarm company Pacific Hydro. The $45,000 allocated from the latest round of the funding stream is attached to Pacific Hydro’s Great South West Sustainable Communities Fund – Yambuk and Codrington windfarms. Moyne organisations successful in attaining grants included the Port Fairy Plovers Soccer Club, the Koroit Irish Festival, the Orford Table Tennis Association, Belfast Aquatics, Port Fairy Tennis Club and Koroit Scouts. The Irish festival will use its funding to purchase new marquees, Belfast Aquatics will install electric doors, an upgrade of venue lighting will happen at table tennis venues, scouts will run kids activities in Koroit and divider nets will be brought by the tennis club. The Plovers soccer club will its funding allocation to expand and purchase equipment for its MiniRoos junior program. Club president Leon Morton said the MiniRoos was a popular program that already had 100 participants. “The feedback we have received has been extremely positive” Mr Morton said. “The most common feedback is along the lines of my child never really liked sport but is loving soccer. This is exactly the community culture we are aiming to encourage with the MiniRoos and the Plovers. “With the help from Pacific Hydro we will be able to not only better equip the MiniRoos program, but also expand our junior and senior programs for the 2022 season.” As well as the Moyne organisations, the funding stream has also approved three Warrnambool-based applications. The Warrnambool Student Wellbeing Association received funding for its Big Life Program, the Warrnambool Agricultural Society for its youth music festival and carnival and Warrnambool Breastfeeding Centre to install automatic doors to improve accessibility. Pacific Hydro’s senior project leader for community investment and communications Bernadette Holland said the company was proud of its community investment program. “Pacific Hydro has invested $4.8 million to support more than 980 local projects in our host communities,” Ms Holland said. “This year alone, we are funding over $600,000 worth of projects. Pacific Hydro is proud to give back to the community-identified projects and organisations that serve and benefit the people who neighbour our renewable energy projects. Many organisations have shared that without Pacific Hydro’s help, their projects would not move forward or serve nearly as many people.”
