$100,000 received for accessibility upgrades at Mermaid Street offices and elsewhere

The Sunshine Coast Association for Community Living (SCACL) will be receiving $100,000 in federal funding to help renovate the association’s offices and housing used by persons with disabilities.

Patrick Weiler, MP for West Vancouver–Sunshine Coast–Sea to Sky Country, was in Sechelt July 15 announcing funding for those projects from the Federal Enabling Accessibility Fund.

Clarence Li, executive director of SCACL, said that the improvements to the offices, including automatic doors, an accessible washroom, additions and work on the association’s therapy room, were inspired in part by SCACL client Jordan McCourt, who was in attendance at the announcement.

Improvements to residences include automatic door openers, a front-entrance ramp and a new accessible front door.
